ABOUT KATHY KENNEDY QUILTS
Artist's Statement
I have enjoyed working with colorful fabrics since my mother taught me to sew when I was a young girl. I have been sewing all my life but only began to make quilts in 2009. I began creating art quilts in 2017. I use a variety of methods, including fusible applique and fabric collage.
I also create quilts using artist Ira Kennedy's fabric panels. This method creates beautiful kaleidoscope blocks that surround the panel. (Ira is my husband.) Seven of my quilts have been exhibited at International Quilt Festival in Houston in 2023 and 2024. Many of my quilts have won awards and been exhibited in local quilt shows.
My husband, Ira Kennedy, and I enjoy our retirement by each pursuing our different art mediums every day at our home in the Texas Hill Country. Ira paints beautiful landscapes and I create quilts, many of which focus on the beauty of my flower garden each Spring and Summer.
